What is Waterboarding? Should the United States allow it?
First we need to understand what waterboarding is. Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia:

"Waterboarding is a form of torture that consists of immobilizing a person on their back with the head inclined downward (the Trendelenburg position), and pouring water over the face and into the breathing passages. Through forced suffocation and inhalation of water, the subject experiences the process of drowning and is made to believe that death is imminent. In contrast to merely submerging the head face-forward, waterboarding almost immediately elicits the gag reflex Although waterboarding does not always cause lasting physical damage, it carries the risks of extreme pain, damage to the lungs, brain damage caused by oxygen deprivation, injuries (including broken bones) due to struggling against restraints, and even death. The psychological effects on victims of waterboarding can last for years after the procedure."

Waterboarding is guaranteed to be topic of the national debates this fall. Where do you stand on the topic. Is waterboarding torture or not? Should the United States use waterboarding was a form of interrogation?

britbrat (12/18): its interrogation. if its the only way a terrorist or the accused will spill, then do it. it is a good and effective way to find out information. and it is harmless. it does not hurt or permantly damage anything (report)
Anonymous (2/8): its interrogation. If that is the only way to get information vital to our security than we need to use it. It is "safe" torture. (report)
Anonymous (4/23): yes its war they kill our people with no rules we should have the right to do the same i think waterbording is kinda lame i would be ok withf much worse to any one killing our people (report)
Anonymous (4/23): hell yes (report)
Anonymous (4/24): Equating terrorist's brutal beheading, maiming and indiscriminate murdering of innocent people, even if they are women or children, with a process that protects life while only creating a fear of death is incredibly irrational. Waterboarding HAS saved many innocent lives and has not sacrificed anyone. Those who are against it love their pride and philosophical politics more than innocent lives, no matter how many have to be sacrificed for them to feel good about themselves. (report)
TWMILLERX6 (4/27): WHATEVER IT TAKES TO KEEP THESE SCUM BAGS FROM ATTACKING OUR COUNTRY I AGREE THAT WE SHOULD DO IT! (report)
Anonymous (4/29): absolutely. whatever it takes to ensure the safety of this country and its citizens. PS prosecute President Obama for compromising the security of his country, a traitorous act. (report)
Anonymous (4/30): this is the only way to get information what are we saposed to do ask him very politely " um... sir c-could you please... tell us were your nuclear weapons are... maybe" (report)
buzzed (5/13): Anything goes in a time of war..That is how a war is won..kill or be killed..torture or be tortured (report)
poet426 (5/15): excuse me but the other side has no rules to war .what the military or security agencys do is is the same thing as the other side is doing. have we for antebee hi jackers and terrosist dont take israele hostages cut the losses loss a feww to save the many r there not more important issue this is a waste of our taxis (report)
superspy007 (5/18): If we do not torture, you know the terrorists will. They hate Americans, and we are going to, and probably already do, look like pansies in there eyes. They're saying "The United States is a bunch of wussies, and sadly, they are probably right. We have to keep up the appearance of being tough. (report)

Anonymous (3/18): its torture. plain and simple. the USA should not use torture to get information. period. (report)
human666 (3/30): You're a freak'n weirdo. Do you kill small animals? This is often an early sign of a serial killer. (report)
Anonymous (1/20): It's one of the most brutal things I've heard of. (report)
ladypmh (4/22): It is torture and wrong. We are Americans doing this? Thank GOD for Obama.. We love you Mr. President. (report)
ladypmh (4/22): Is this tactic really going to stop terrorist? Has it really been effective? If the terrorist can hijack a plane, and crash it, knowing they are going to die, do you think they will turn over info to us by Waterboarding them?????Hell no!!! (report)
Anonymous (4/23): Are we no better than terrorists??? This is the US - doesn't that MEAN anything anymore? Is this what our founding fathers intended? I think not. Is this what the Geneva Convention intended? No way. How can WE sanction other countries for torturing our soldiers, if we do the same to theirs? (report)
holleychichi (5/24): holleychichi...... I don't think this tecnique is truely effective. it only give s the detainnee the feeling, that they are drowning.these are terrorist, many don't care about dying for their cause. maybe we should find something more effective. (report)
Anonymous (5/24): Torture is defined as the "intentional causing of somebody's experiencing agony", according to Wiktionary. Clearly, waterboarding does this. No one should be forced to endure torture, even to recieve information. No wonder people think America is such a big bully, if we use such primitive ways to get what we want. (report)
Anonymous (5/24): Hell no. This is a cruel, violent, and disgusting act. If we do this, why shouldn't other countries do it to us? This technique is also highly ineffective, a lot of terrorists are truly devoted to and don't mind dying for their cause. (report)
Anonymous (5/27): No, because it is torture, I don't think torture is American, we allow these, and we would be allowing others to to this to our soldiers and citizens. (report)
